BBC iplayer worked fine on my lapptop, and when viewed directly on my smart TV. The problems of buffering did not occur with any other player - just BBC iplayer. I received great support from BT through this forum and the problem was eventually resolved by replacing the BT HomeHub 4 by HomeHub 6.

Virgin's broadband service runs via cables rather than a BBC are removing iplayer V2 from service, This has nothing to do with Samsung. I am told that there is an in line device available which solves this problem as it appears the models of Samsung TV we have are not compatible with other versions of iplayer.
